INTRODUCTION

Ovidius University is a higher education institution in Constanta, founded in 1961. The university offers courses in Cultural Studies, Medicine and Mathematics in English. As of 2008, students coming from Moldova, Albania, Republic of Macedonia, Turkey, India, Turkmenistan, South Africa are enrolled as international students.

History

  • In 1990, following the HGR no. 225/7.03.1990 is founded the Faculty of Medicine, with the profile: Medicine.
  • In 1999 started the University Medical College, with four specializations: General Medicine, Dental Technique, Balneophysiotherapy and Pharmacy.
  • In 1992 started the modules of teaching in English language and, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, in French.
  • In 2002, the Faculty of Medicine divided in: Faculty of General Medicine and Faculty of Oral Medicine and Pharmacy.
  • In 2004, the Faculty of Midwives, with a four years study program.

Ovidius University of Constanta also offers PhD programms in English, French or Romanian. The students enrolled in the International section are usually asked to learn Romanian during a preparatory year. Due to the resemblance of Romanian with all Latin-based languages, the language test has an extremely high rate of successful results additionally; the candidates who speak Romanian can skip the preparatory year after having passed a test of Romanian language. The candidates, who can formally prove that they have studied in Romanian for at least four years consecutively, do not need to pass the Romanian language test or to attend the preparatory year. Faculty Of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine is a state-funded Medical Faculty that was founded, as a distinctive and independent structure of "Ovidius" University of Constanta, under the name of Faculty of General Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy in 1990. Although it is considered one of the youngest ones in the country, it is one the most dynamic and ambitious among the other Medical Faculties in Romania Since 1993, the Faculty of Medicine started the modules of teaching in the English and French language at all levels and specializations, both in undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Currently there are over 200 foreign students, enrolled in Undergraduate and Postgraduate study in the English language. The majority of students come from India, Sri Lanka, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, France, Greece, USA, Great Britain, Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria and many more.

The University of Constanta is fully accredited by the Romanian Government. The Medical school is recognized and listed with the WHO and ECFMG. Accommodation

Housing students live in the newly built Residence Halls. It is a beautiful facility on the same premises with the new medical school building campus and bus service is efficient to take you anywhere in the city. However, there are off-campus apartments that some students might prefer the cost range from 80 Euros and above depending on the site, the facilities and the size of the apartments, most cases, the students sign lease contract with the landlords and pay the rent as well as the utilities bills.

All accommodation is self-catering, with shared kitchen facilities. Bathrooms are en-suite in the rooms. Accommodation costs include heating, lighting, high-speed internet connection and cable and the regular cleaning of communal areas (excludes bedrooms). Rooms are available as double or single rooms. Additionally, a common fully stocked kitchen and laundry room are available onsite.
