Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University was established on 6 October 1963 as the Higher Institute of Chemical Technology, later renamed after its patron, chemist and poet Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov, and formally reconstituted as a university by the National Assembly in 1995. The university’s Faculty of Medicine was opened in 2019 following a decision of the National Assembly, making it the only faculty of medicine in South-Eastern Bulgaria and training students for the Master’s-level ‘Medicine’ qualification. Alongside Medicine, the university operates faculties of Technical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Public Health and Health Care. As one of Bulgaria’s newer medical faculties, it offers an English-medium General Medicine programme aligned with WHO recognition and NMC/WDOMS-listing requirements, making it an emerging option for international and Indian students.
Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University offers a newly established, modern Faculty of Medicine — the only one in South-Eastern Bulgaria — with an English-medium MBBS-equivalent program and a multi-faculty university campus in the coastal city of Burgas.
