INTRODUCTION

The International University of Kyrgyzstan is a university in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The university was established by decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, The founders of the International University of Kyrgyzstan are the Government of Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Education and Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic and San Francisco State University (USA).

The International University of Kyrgyzstan is a state university with the status of International Higher Education and has a direct relationship to the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. By the decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic on December 30, 1998, and the enactment of the Kyrgyz Republic Government, the International University was given the status of autonomous self-management.

The IUK is a member of the World Association of Universities and Colleges (WAUC), Association of European Universities (EUA), European Association for International Education (EAIE), Global Alliance for Transnational Education (GATE), Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW), International Association of Universities under UNESCO.

Medicine Faculty

International School of Medicine (ISM) is an international higher educational institution is a structural unit of IUK created to train medical specialists, conduct medical research in cooperation with leading health centers of the country and countries of Far abroad.

ISM was established on a special resolution of the Kyrgyz Government to train doctors in line with up-to-date programs that meet international training standards and requirements in different regions of the world.

ISM is one of the top higher educational institutions in Kyrgyzstan where the program with the medium of instruction in English. As a part of IUK the ISM have signed the Bologna agreement (EU), which sets up single and commonly European educational standards.

The International School of Medicine of International University of Kyrgyzstan is an official state educational institution with the license of Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyz Republic for medical education in General Medicine within 5 years of study. (Official license AL #540).At present time more than 1800 student are studying into International University of Kyrgyzstan among them 760 students are studying in the medical faculties from different countries.

Campuses

This is the main centre for studies in the International School of Medicine (ISM). This is also the main campus for International University of Kyrgyzstan (IUK) where other faculties other than medicine also take place. It also consists of the main library where students can get books issued for studies. It also has many halls with multimedia facilities and auditoriums. The main administration of IUK is based in this campus which overlooks the beautiful Philharmonic of the Kyrgyz Republic in the capital Bishkek.

BASIC MEDICAL EDUCATION

GENERAL MEDICINE (5 years of studies) for school graduates with 12 years of educational experience (mostly for British Commonwealth citizens). This program is implemented with English as the language of instruction.

The program is implemented with the use of integration and modules based training technology introduced in Kyrgyzstan with the technical support of World Health Organization experts and through the application of credit hours system.

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES (residency program, 3 years) Are conducted in a broad range of such clinical fields as: obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, traumatology and orthopedics, pediatrics, therapeutics and other. ISM also offers postgraduate non-clinical training programs for the degrees of physician-laboratory assistant and Master of Public Health.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH PROGRAMS

Are offered in various fields with subsequent presentation of relevant dissertations leading to scientific degrees of:

"candidate of medical sciences" awarded at ASPIRANTURA (on completion of Ph.D studies)

"doctor of medical sciences" awarded at DOCTORANTURA (on completion of doctoral studies).

  Library

Like every higher education institution ISM has a library that contains a huge collection of Medical books. Latest foreign editions of commonly used books are available in sufficient numbers. New editions of books are regularly updated with WHO series and periodicals, in English and in Russian, and all the measures are taken for availability of books to every student.

The library possesses a unique book stock (above six thousand items) including traditional and new information carrying mediums, among them there are books in the line of medicine: therapy, pediatric,

oncology, dermatology, gynecology, histology, microbiology, pharmacology, orthopedic, etc.

At this moment there are registered about 600 students and 80 teachers in the library. New information technologies are introduced for the smooth functioning of the library. The library's reading halls have PCs connected to the network, so students get free access to the global Internet.

Hostel

A group of three students are allotted a room. This room is furnished with three beds, three side tables, three chairs, one large sized study table, and a cupboard. Pillows, Bed Sheets, Mattresses, Quilts and Blankets are provided by the hostel in charge. Each room has a large window for easy ventilation. Every room has an automated heating device that runs 24x7 during the winter snow season to maintain optimum temperature in the hostel rooms. Each hostel floor has a set of toilets and bathrooms that have a regular 24x7 cold and hot water supply.

Separate floor at ISM, IUK Hostel building has been allotted to the female students. A female warden is responsible for the safety of the girl students in the hostel. The entrance and exit of the girl's hostel has an extra inner gate to ensure extra security and safety of the female students. A representative of the ISM, IUK Student Parliament, i.e. the Girl's Senator also resides in this hostel and helps other girl students with their problems and assists them whenever required.
